Can I Polish and Renew the Clear Plastic Covers over my Headlights?

Greetings...Over time, the lenses over my headlights have become obscured, a bit rough, and dull, no longer being crystal clear. Can I polish them to become clear again? Can I Polish and Renew the Clear Plastic Covers over my Headlights?
Yes they make a polish that you can get at the local parts store.. You can also use a mild rubbing compound. If it is not to bad you can use toothpaste. just remember to not use anything to abrasive. Can I Polish and Renew the Clear Plastic Covers over my Headlights?
Yes. They sell a plastic polish. But the dingie, fadded look is on the inside of the headlight from the heat off the light bulb. All the gases that it puts out sticks to the plastic. So take it off and clean the inside too. Oh and you can get the blue lights they sell them anywhere. They dont burn is hot.

My headlight in my car look yellow, how can i clean them from the inside, to make them clear once again?

i own a shop, and if its on the inside of it you have to break the seal on the inside of it to get to it,i have done this before, and you can re-seal it,, the seal being partially broken on it is whats making it draw moisture to start with,i did a few Nissan's and Toyota,s before, and you can do it,,use epoxy to re-seal it with,it will work real good ,and this will stop it from doing this again, good luck with it,hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.My headlight in my car look yellow, how can i clean them from the inside, to make them clear once again?
Mothers鈩?Plastic Polish was formulated to clean, shine, and protect plastics and clear plastics.

You can find it at places online and Walmart. It cleans the plastic on your headlights from the outside. My headlight in my car look yellow, how can i clean them from the inside, to make them clear once again?
If its inside you can't. If its outside, which it probably is, You can buy a lens poishing kit and most auto stores.

I have used buffing compound and then some polishing compound on the outside. This will remove discoloration from your lens.

well get a screw driver and un screw the screw and pull out the lights and then wash it out.. but i recamend that u take it to a car dealership and let them do it
Check ebay to see how much new ones or slightly used ones are you might find a good deal.

I have a 1996 Ford Contour GL and the headlight arent that bright! the lenses are clear as can be and i dont?

want to get rid of it. the lights shine maybe 9 feet infront of the car. how can i make it so they shine further? the headlights have recently been professionaly adjusted. how can i make them brighter and shine further?I have a 1996 Ford Contour GL and the headlight arent that bright! the lenses are clear as can be and i dont?
Your only upgrade is the Sylvania Sylverstar Plus lightbulbs, about $25 each at Kragens, cheaper if you buy the 2-pack.

You don't have an HID option. I have a '96 LX myself, and I'm in the same boat. Not much to adjust. Do as I did... get the Sylverstars.I have a 1996 Ford Contour GL and the headlight arent that bright! the lenses are clear as can be and i dont?
it could be a battery issue. do the lights get ALOT brighter when you rev up the motor? they will get a little brighter due to your altenator spinning up more amps but if they get alot brighter then your battery could be weak.

i would personally change the bulbs. my cars an 02 and they went dim last year.

when you replace them get sylvania Silver star bulbs or PIAA's bulbs. they are the proven brightest bulb for a non HID headlight.

but whatver you do if you go to a higher wattage bulb be carefull, you can fry stuff if you go too big!
have the actual bulbs ever been replaced?

headlight bulbs DO eventually dim over time. replacing them might be all you need to do
Cars that have Halogen headlights can dim over time - you should change every 3 to 5 years depending on how much you use them. They are 10 years old, just need new bulbs. Should only cost around $5-$10 for new bulbs.
wagner trueview headlights. let me know if you need them. :-)

you can read about them at federalmogul.com

Hope this helps and let me know if you need anything else.

Go to any auto replacement store and find compatible bulbs for your model car, that run a higher wattage. Just like the light bulbs in your home, which run in higher watts for more life and brightness, the same applies to auto bulbs.

They are usually called halogen or xenon.

Other options may be an HID headlight kit, or fog lights. Good luck.
Replace the headlight assembly they do yellow. And replace the lights as well there will be a big difference in light output. Cost? Around 300$ plus labor. Had the 98' Mercury (Mystake) Mystique
you most likely have a bad ground somewhere for your head lights try and find a ground wire coming from the head lights and clean the wire and the area and put it back on you should have nice bright lights again
battery might be weak, check the wires from the lights, check the bulbs
haha! hilarious!! i have the SAME car and the SAME problem!! and it's only getting worse. for one, i know i need to wash my car badly, and i think that's why i've noticed that it's worse at the moment. my lenses however are horribly scratched. if you have already had them adjusted then you probably just need new bulbs.
Go to your local dealer or better yet, wal mart and get yourself some halogen bulb replacements. They're cheap and they'll help you see much further and better.
Well, there are different ways to answer your question. It may be the bulbs begginning to burn out. They will burn out quicker if you use them alot if you drive alot at night or just need your lights on alot. Getting them adjusted won't always fix your problem. I would go out and buy new headlights, but if you are wanting them to shine further and brighter, I would suggest neon headlights. They are very good headlights that can shine very far, but they can get pricy.

Best ways to clear up headlights on mustang?

they are foggy and i think its on the outside...

what are some cheap ways to clear them up n look like new?

its an 02 mustang with plastic headlight coversBest ways to clear up headlights on mustang?
Nothing short of replacing them will take care of that problem.Best ways to clear up headlights on mustang?
Tooth paste and a rag is the cheapest way but requires some time and elbow grease.
Buff them out with a professional buffing machine and polish. That should make them more clear, and get rid of the yellow/foggy tint film.
Check an auto parts store. Mothers make a product that is suppose to polish the haze off of them.

  • My headlights (plastic lenses) have become dull. Is there something I can use to clear them up?

I have a 2001 car. The lenses have become dull. If I rub them with water, they clear up. But as soon as it drys it is foggy again. I put new super bright bulbs in, but I got a ticket because they had a blue tint. Everything is illegal in California. So now I have the legal bright bulbs in. They are not much brighter then the old ones I had before. Is there something that I can rub on them to clear them up.My headlights (plastic lenses) have become dull. Is there something I can use to clear them up?
your local auto parts store should have a headlight lense cleaner. it should be relatively inexpensiveMy headlights (plastic lenses) have become dull. Is there something I can use to clear them up?
Many parts stores and department stores carry a headlight restorer kit.

It runs about $15, and consists of several sheets of super fine sandpaper and a bottle of plastic polish. Follow the directions and it will clear them right up.

I've used it on a few cars and it's worked well.
the plastic has dryed out..it needs some lube..use some plastic bumper/dash clear silicon..like Armour all protectant.
    pepsodent tooth paste

I tried to find the headlights for a 04 impala that have clear corner lenses and i cant find any cansomeone he

Try www.cardomain.com. They have a lot of parts custom and universal for almost any car or truck. I have a neon and I got a lot of my parts from them

Over time the headlights on a car gets a yellow film on them, how can you clean it to make it clear again?

3M makes a headlight polishing compound you can buy to polish the plastic. you can do this and if you're good with painting shoot a clear coat over the headlights and you're good to go. otherwise the headlights will eventually go back to the way they were. this is what we do at my dealership. if they're too bad you'll just have to replace them but i'd try this method first.Over time the headlights on a car gets a yellow film on them, how can you clean it to make it clear again?
I heard tooth paste to polish the lenses. Just like waxing the car but in 2'; circles all over the lens or orbital polisher. I haven't tried it.Over time the headlights on a car gets a yellow film on them, how can you clean it to make it clear again?
you can clean the outside but not inside must replace
I used to use fine jeweler's rouge and a soft cotton buffing wheel. Toothpaste is easier but I don't know how well it will work.
the best thing to do and use in a good polise,,go to walmart and get that drill bit cloth thing that spins and get to the polising it works i had done it ,,

    600.00 each... Mercedes.....I don't cry...hell no!!!
try using tooth paste if the lens is plastic it seems to work well

    use crest paste
Use a buffer wheel like for waxing a car and use Flitz metal cleaner paste. It will do a great job and it is cheap.
If you can find a product at the auto parts store, called ';FLITZ'; its a polisher with this orange foam ball that works real good.....and the cheap way is salt and isoprople alcohol whiped easy across the head light, if inside pour in salt and alcohol swirl around till clean, works ok not great but gets job done........
Use M.D. wholesale's New Lite Headlight cleaner and repair kit (go to www.mdwholesale.com).

No I dont work for them, I just know it works rather well.
yeah that sh** sucks huh? I've had to replace my headlights a couple of times...never figured out how to rejevunate them though...if you got a sweet mustang, just spring for it! But if you totally can't see at night you should probably replace them also.

Aren't clear Altezza headlights/tail lights played out?

Yeah, I thought they were kind of neat looking when I saw them on the Lexus IS, for a few moments. Yet lo and behold, now they got kits so every car ever made can have clear headlamps and tail lights too! To me clear lights makes a car look flimsy with all that super clear plastic at the corners and it is impossible to see those at night, and even though the turn signal and brake light bulbs are colored to match what they are they seem way fainter than regular orange turn signals and red colored brake lights. Why do people want these so bad? They make your car look cheap and ghetto.Aren't clear Altezza headlights/tail lights played out?
They sure are. It is illegal to have clear taillights.Aren't clear Altezza headlights/tail lights played out?
Well you must only have red brake lights, amber signal/ red signals.

On the other hand I think the Altezza and make certain cars look more classy. Not all though.

I've seen a lot of plastic headlight covers turn a milky white that blocks some of the light coming out.

I've read of a cleaner that clears that up. No amount of soap, water or other household chemicals I've found was able to clean it.

The second link lists a site in the UK.Best ways to clear up headlights on mustang?
Go to your local paint supply store, and buy a small bottle of acetone or paint thinner. preferrably acetone. put alittle on a small cotton terry cloth and wipe slowly. the acetone will cause the plastic to heat and remelt clear, this is a temporary fix and you will have to repeat once a year and the plastic is the problem. when youve wipped the headlight take some buffing compound used on a base clear paint job and buff the headlight it will look good as new. THIS INFORMATION IS WORTH MONEY AS I DO IT TO ALOT of cars that come into my shop and i charge 20 a headlight takes 15-20 mintues to do a complete job on one light

Are you sure its not wax or film from a car wash like that clear coat protectent? Or is it on the inside like moisture? You could try cleaning them with alcohol or vinegar.

Try Flitz, this will get you by a few times. You will have to replace the headlight after a while, as that coating that protects the plastic will be worn off.

How do i clean my headlights? Theyre not as clear as they use to be and nothing seems to work.?

3M Headlight Lens Restoration System... or one of the same sort. They make special products and chemicals to ';de-fog'; the lenses. How do i clean my headlights? Theyre not as clear as they use to be and nothing seems to work.?
1.Determine the amount of damage. This will determine the extent of repair work required for headlight repair.

2.Mask around the headlight. Protect your car's finish with blue painter's tape.

    3.Clean the headlight lens.

    鈼ut gloves on.

鈼oak the sandpaper in a bucket of soapy water.

鈼pray the headlight with a commercial plastic lens cleaner or just soap and water. Wash the lens with a clean rag or a shop towel.

    4.Remove oxidation.

鈼ip one finger into a commercial plastic polish or a compound designed for plastic. With the lens still wet, apply the polish evenly over the entire headlight.

鈼rab a sanding sponge or a soft hand pad and take out the starting sandpaper which you decided earlier, in most cases, the 600-grit sandpaper.

鈼old the sandpaper in three around the Soft Hand Pad Or Sanding Sponge.

鈼ip the sponge and the sandpaper into the soapy water.

鈼and, using a side to side motion, applying even pressure, periodically wetting the sponge and the sandpaper in the soapy water. (Avoid contacting paint and other surrounding surfaces.)

5.Sand while keeping the surface wet.

鈼ontinue the sanding process with the finer 1200 grit, then even finer 2000 grit and finally 2500 grit sandpapers to remove scratches left by the previous grit.

鈼pply the commercial plastic polish/ compound after sanding with the 2500-grit sandpaper. This time, let it haze, then buff/wipe off with a shop towel.

鈼lean the lens with a plastic lens cleaner or soap and water. This is to remove any polish residue.

6.Apply UV inhibitor coating (protectant) to the headlight lens.

鈼ote, this is a preview of the finished lens, if you are not satisfied up to this point you must repeat Steps 1-5 until the lens is clear.

鈼eal the lens with UV inhibitor coating/protectant.

鈼wirl and rotate the UV inhibitor coating/protectant. Do this slowly to mix it, but do not shake it.

鈼old a shop towel into four and squeeze a quarter-sized amount of UV inhibitor coating/protectant onto it and let it soak in for a few seconds.

鈼pply to the lens using a single stroke going from left to right gradually working your way down the entire lens.

7.Check for clean headlights. The headlight repair is complete and you should now have clean headlights that look as good as new and restored optical clarity for safe night driving. How do i clean my headlights? Theyre not as clear as they use to be and nothing seems to work.?
j1234 was on the right track, but your better off to do what Mike P said. I had a fox body Mustang and they were notorious for the headlamp clouding up. To clean it I used a product called ';autosol.'; It is a metal polish similar to what Mike used. Some other guy posted to used wet sand paper but even the fine stuff will be to harsh, and once the damage is done, it's done! Autosol, and metal polishes are basically cream abrasives but aren't abrasive enough to damage your lens. I even use it to get exhaust gases off of my 2004 R1 motorcycle and it works great!

I used other products such as plastic polishes and speacial stuff but for me autosol or any other metal polish worked the best. Just apply in a circular motion and wipe off as if your waxing a car and your done! Nice shiny lamps!!!
A friend of mine purchased what is called The Mother's Ball from autozone. It's made by the manufacturers of Mother's polish. It includes a foam polishing ball that attaches to a cordless drill and polish. He used that on his headlights and it worked great.

***Nice smart ellic attitude you have there Mike P.!!! I bet I know what the P beside your name stands for!!! ****
go to autozone and show them, they will show you what to use.

most of the time to get them glass like clear, you'll have to sand it a little before applying a cleaner which will give it that nice shine.
If they're plastic, you can spend a ton of money on stuff that really doesn't work that well, or you can get new headlights. I tried for years with two different cars and one truck.
you can take out the glass piece as if you were changing the bulb.

    and clean the glass piece.
Hmm well one day I spilled oil on my headlights and I wiped it off and my headlights were as clear as when I first bought the car.
I used some aluminum mag polish, a rag, and some buffing. It seemed to work just fine, and didn't have to buy some magical kit.
    Get new ones...

Change the light bulbs they may be dimming

take the old ones out.. and get a cleaner...
    get plastX.

I have a bottle [haven't used it yet ] and they claim to get rid of cloudiness.
oh my... the wise man above me has it figured out down to a science...

I say buy a new one.... not worth fooling with

  • I have a 2001 neon how do i clean the plastic headlights to come clear they r foggy any home remedies??

foggy? if you mean yellowed from the sun, there is nothing you can do but replace them. if your problem is a watery mist on the inside, the headlights are not sealed. if they are scratched, get a cheap power polisher($15-20) and some polishing compound. NOT WAX get the pasty stuff. you might have to get some heavy grid compound for depper scratches and finish of with less agressive compound. i find the ';turtle wax'; with the green labeled can for the final polishing and the one with the red label for depper scratches work the best. with some time you can make them look like new. you can also try some 1600 grit wet sandpaper as the first step for very heavy scratches. good luckI have a 2001 neon how do i clean the plastic headlights to come clear they r foggy any home remedies??

People will give you 1000 different ways, the best way is to go get new head lights.

I get them from a company called Certifit, they are way less expensive than the dealer, OW I just checked a 2001 Neon are 95 bucks a piece. OK the next cure I would use is this site. I have heard from my mechanics that this stuff works. I will ask them to show me tomorrow....
nothing you can really do but to replace the headlights. headlights are usually encased and not designed to be tampered with. it shouldn't be that difficult or expensive. best to call the parts department of your local chrysler dealership.
most of the time there is no fix for that except replace them but you can go to your local parts store they sell products that work somewhat but nothing will get it perfect sorry
Do a search on flame polishing (using a blowtorch).

as odd as it sounds, you can buff it with toothpaste. or use some mothers aluminum wheel polish, and the mothers power ball buffer. actually i think mothers has a plastic lens polish now that i think about it. but definetly use the powerball. it'll save you a lot of time and sweat.Foggy headlights, how can you make them clear again???

Yes there is, you should be able to find it at your auto zone or other car parts store.
    This product or something similar.

Cheapest way is plastic cleaner and a little elbow grease!
use Kit Scratch Out, scratch and haze remover. comes in a 7oz bottle, the bottle is yellow. can be found at auto parts stores, walmart. it really works.
alot of ppl say that the way to make them clearer is to wax them like u do the rest of ur car

    eventually theyll turn clearer
Sometimes it can be the actual headlights got to old and needs replacing, if this is the case and you can't clean them up buy new ones and replace yourself with car manual not that hard to do, otherwise will fail on your next MOT good luck :)

meguiars plastxI used a headlight cleaner on my 93 mustang, the lamps keep fogging up and are not clearing up?
Polishing headlamps takes a lot of elbow grease. The first mistake was sanding them and then trying to polish them without a machine polisher. You need a wool pad on a buffer and a super duty rubbing compound. This will clear them up in a few minutes as the buffer and wool pad heats up the plastic and melts it to a shine. The compound acts as a lubricant and has a grit to it to speed up the process.
there is water inside of them, and when the lights are on, the water heats up and evaporates.

What country do you live in? It depends on the laws of that country. In Canada they come with clear lenses. You should be able to order these from a dealer since it is an ';06, I doubt if they are available after market.Anyone know where i can get clear headlights for a 06 legacy (not blubs)?
I assume you want to take out all the amber plastic lenses right?

    Going for the clean look?

OK, you will want to open up your current headlight assemblies and take them out. It sounds daunting but is actually really easy.

It involves baking your assemblies in a 150 degree F oven for a few minutes to melt the sealant they use between the clear plastic lens and the black plastic housing.

Next you'll have to take off any screws and then pry them apart...CAREFULLY. Use the metal paint scrapers you can find at Home Depot, Sears, etc. for this. Most important thing is to be firm but take your time. You'll want to use one scraper in each hand and work your way all the way around it.

Once you get the lens off...you should be able to pluck each of the amber lenses off...some may have screws but most should just come off.

Once completed you can also paint the non-reflector portions of the housings if you're into that kind of thing.

To seal it back up use the black silicone sealant they have at your local auto parts store...make sure to use enough to keep it airtight and secure.Anyone know where i can get clear headlights for a 06 legacy (not blubs)?
ummm, headlights are already clear. if they weren't clear...you'd never see the road at night.
go on ebay. you can find anything on ebay.

Can i remove the yellow lens in the stock headlight assembly and if so how?or is it a headliught assembli replacement that i have seen youtube etc2008 silverado clear headlights?
Buy clear headlights2008 silverado clear headlights?
Are you talking about your turn signals or your driving lights? If your talking about your driving lights you might be able to find one out of a scrap yard and replace it that way. There is not going to be a repair manual for that truck yet because it is still too new but you should be able to find one for the '04 or'05 that would have the same design if not similar design to remove the headlight assembly. It should only be a couple of bolts holding it in I think.
Yeah a company called Anzo makes some nice headlights for that truck. They have black and chrome ones. I don't know what you are looking to spend but they run anywhere from 300 to 450 dollars. They also sell matching led tail lights. If you do not have that kind of cash you can always take apart the light assembly and remove the amber reflector but by doing so you may make the lights illegal for on road use varies by state.

http://www.toyotacorollamodifications.com/clearheadlights.htmHow to make 1995 corolla headlights clear?
you can clean the headlight with 2000 grit wet sandpaper and then buff them, not easy to do. recommend talking to a body shop. no you cant buy just the clear cover for light, it is a complete light assembly.there is aftermarket company's that make factory style lights ask the body shop for a price on them. How to make 1995 corolla headlights clear?
    HIDs honey!!!
unfortunately, most composite headlights made of plastic yellow with age. the clear they mean in the link is for removing amber lenses or reflectors from the composite units. if you are trying to get modern parabola-style light-buckets, you will HAVE to buy them aftermarket. you may not be able to get anything other than OEM style plastic buckets. have a look around various sites, it may be hard to find them.

The clear plastic cover on the headlights of my truck have turned yellow. Is there a way to restore to clear?

All you can do is replace them. The yellowing is a chemical change that can't be undone. The clear plastic cover on the headlights of my truck have turned yellow. Is there a way to restore to clear?
You can get a kit (I used a Permatex headlight cover restoration kit from the auto store for $15) and sand off the yellowed layer (use 2000 grit then 2500 grit) and then rub it with polish (came with the kit) and it comes out ok.

dont think u can repl. the cover...i believe u heve to repl. the whole assembly.....both or else youll look funny....there are some sites (not ebay,,,,) that have brand new assemblies not used...for cheap... try headlights or headlight assemblies...price a few places.i ordered me some a couple years ago they were perfect....once a week polish them with some car wax or polish to keep them looking new.
try the kit at the auto parts store.... it has wet sand paper in the kit and a polish it will help about 70% better then they are now..........

    i've used them before
Ask a body shop man. They usually wet sand them down. I just dont know how fine the paper needs to be thats why you would need to ask those guys?
The make a polishing kit for faded headlight covers the you can get in a parts store like NAPA,Or Advance auto parts. It may not get them like new but it will clear them up alot more than they are now.
Yes, replace them. That is what happens to plastic and, once it yellows, you are stuck.
You can get replacement covers at the auto parts store.

You can replace them with Aftermarket lenses...We use Keystone for work all the time and they are international and have the best prices.

pressure wash them, or get new light covers
try flitz, or a rubbing compound. but it's not gonna help much.

How do I remove the film off my headlights on my 1992 Lexus sc400. I would like to have them clear>???

I'd just take it to an auto detailing shop and tell them to try clearing it out. It could require a little bit of work, since it might need to be cleaned from the inside too.How do I remove the film off my headlights on my 1992 Lexus sc400. I would like to have them clear%26gt;???
Sounds like those lights would benefit from a plastic polish. There is a company called Novus that makes this. I usually find it at aviation supply stores because small aircraft owners use the stuff to buff out their plexiglass windscreens. (your headlight covers are very similar.) I also use it for the plastic back window on the convertible tops on my Miatas. The stuff is amazing.

What type of clear coat to use after I restore my BMW headlights and best way to apply it without problems?

The plastic covers are the worse. I am not aware of a sealant to prevent the return of the discoloration or ';fog';. You may need to use the cleaner and polish on a regular basis.

The headlights on my car have become very dull and frosty what can I do to make them crystal clear again?

I would like to do it myselfThe headlights on my car have become very dull and frosty what can I do to make them crystal clear again?
I've had that same problem, here's what I would suggest %26amp; what I did that worked pretty well.

I took some sandpaper to hand sand them first to take off the top, rough coating of plastic that has broken down from UV rays, sand, etc.... Start off with 100 grit sandpaper to get the hard rough stuff off and get down to the stable plastic underneath and then work your way to 200, 400, then 800 sandpaper (I used sandpaper that was able to be used with water to wetsand it the last little bit) then you can use some good plastic polishes to finish it off.

It worked very well, but was not as good as original as the plastic is affected by the UV rays all the way through, but a significant improvement was made, though it began to deteriorate again after a year or so, so you may want to touch it up every year or so before it gets too bad again.

Best of luck. The headlights on my car have become very dull and frosty what can I do to make them crystal clear again?
    Hi,

please use the product named 'Meguiars PlatX Clear plastic cleaner and polish'
Not much except getting new lenses. You can try polishing them with car wax or compounding them, but it's not much of an improvement.
You can use a cloth buffing wheel and some white jewelers rouge ( This is the finest grade) buff out the lens with this, it should clear them up.

There is another product I've seen on TV called Flitz. I have never tried this before so I can't say for sure that it works.
It depends entirely on the type of headlight: sealed beam, halogen, gas discharge, and any of several variations on these. You will need to identify the type, and then someone can come up with a rational answer.
go to advance or auto zone and get a mild buffing compound to use on them it will remove the haze and make then shine like new,it may be necessary to do this every few months though,to keep them looking good, ask any person who works at a parts store and they will know what your talking about, good luck on it.
Assuming that you have an older car with bulbs that mount in a headlight fixture you can do one of the following:

    1) Replace the headlight fixture. If you choose this option you should look for a quality aftermarket product that is original equipment (OEM) compatible so that installing it is easiest and less expensive than buying from a dealer.

    Hope this helps

    2) There products that you can use to polish a headlight fixture that is dull and clouded due to exposure to UV from sunlight. Personally I've never tried any of them and don't know how well they work. You should be able to find something at a local auto parts store.
    Change the bulb.
Wynn's makes a kit that polishes the plastic lenses and makes them look almost new again. I think cost of kit is around $35.00. Other companies might make them also.

No. CLK MY2000 were more narrow than the E class. You may be able to find an aftermarket one though. Note that because you will get a clear lens, they will not be a diffuser anymore, as the lens acts as a diffuser to spread the light. Therefore, not sure how safe this will be, unless u buy a diffuser between the bulb and the clear lens

not at all, w208 and W210 use completely different headlamps, if you need replacement look for Hella OEM replacements they are cheaper than originals and very good quality.... you should also pay attention if yours are standard or HID, usually HIDs have clear lenses rather than opaque ones

This is a real beef to me. There are tons of detailing answers for most car care problems. But I have yet to find a way to clear up foggy headlights. Solution (other than replacing)

If it's mainly on the outside of the lens:

Use some grease lighting or mean green to remove dirt and yellowish film. Don't let it sit onto headlight lens dry. Use water to rinse. After drying, use a chrome polish (yes chrome polish) in a paste like ';Mothers.'; Repeat with polish maybe two to three times depending on how discolored they are.

If it's on the inside you would have to remove the lens and us some bleach to pour inside the headlight to brighten it up.
if they are fogged up. just buy a new set and install them

because they have a crack somewhere letting moisture inside of them.
Pep boys, Auto Zone, Wal Mart and others all have defog kits to clear up those headlamps.
here you go man, it happens to Grand Ams pretty bad too. good luck

Why are my car headlights getting cloudy/foggy ? Can anybody tell me how to make them clear again?

My car's headlights are so cloudy/foggy on the outside and look as if I had put some spray on them. Can anybody help me with this. Perhaps buffing them?

Thanks. Why are my car headlights getting cloudy/foggy ? Can anybody tell me how to make them clear again?
advance auto parts handles kits specially designed for buffy headlights and they work great you just need to have an electric drill and a spray bottle of water along with the kit which has an adapter fot the drill and some pads with a specially formulated compound on them. Why are my car headlights getting cloudy/foggy ? Can anybody tell me how to make them clear again?
Age makes them foggy.....especially cars made in the 80s and on...they used cheap plastic back then. You can try taking them apart yourself and buffing them out or using a plastic cleaner called Plexus. Sometimes it's hard to take apart your headlights without special tools. Go to your local parts store and have them take a look. Try getting some new lights while you're at it if your car needs them.
The discoloration on your headlights is caused by dirt and grime as well as, UV deterioration. Its simple to clean. Go to your local parts store and get some Meguires Plastix Cleaner... or the kit from 3M. About $8 for the plastix and about $20 for the 3M kit.

Both are plastic polish..... in 30 minutes you can do both headlights.
Take out the headlights, and clean them from the inside. That is what happened to our Lexus Headlights after it was raining, and then the headlights fogged up and looked like crap. We took them out and cleaned them, and they looked fine.
There are kits for that on Ebay

  • I carelessly sprayed top clear coat on my headlight lenses. How to remove?

I was coating my bumper with Dupli-Color clear coat when I accidentally gave a shot on my left headlight lens. I quickly wanted to use a cloth to wipe it. Still it left a haze on the lens. I tried Windex, Alcohol and dish detergent, couldn't get the haze away. Help !

BTW, is the coating corrosive ?I carelessly sprayed top clear coat on my headlight lenses. How to remove?
You can try buffing it out or use oil base paint thinner like varsol (not lacquer paint thinner, too corrosive), with some hard scrubbing will remove the clear coat. You can try lacquer paint thinner but test it first on a piece of plastic. If it dulls the plastic, don't use it. Or you just leave the headlight lens alone. the clear coat will peel off sooner or later. Or you can go to auto body shop for clear coat remover.

don't forget to cover the other head light before painting.I carelessly sprayed top clear coat on my headlight lenses. How to remove?
You can try paint stripper. It comes in a spray can, but be careful with it. Its powerful stuff. It would probably work on headlights.

is it worth the money to buy new headlights or buy that cleaner stuff that is suppose to work?I have a 1989 ford f150 and my headlights are not clear how do i fix this? new ones? or that cleaning solution
Get new ones. Head lights dim with age for several reasons. They are not expensive and will be a big improvement, especially if you go to high output or halogen.I have a 1989 ford f150 and my headlights are not clear how do i fix this? new ones? or that cleaning solution
The cleaning solution is only a temporary fix. The real problem is that the plastic lenses have discolored and oxidized. You have to remove the oxidized layer of plastic, polish it, and seal it. I used this kit on my '90 Chevy Pick-up and it worked really well. Just follow the instructions closely, and be sure to mask off around the headlight to avoid any damage to the paint, etc. It sure beats paying more than $100 per light to replace them with factory stuff. Over time, you may have to do them again, because that is the nature of the poly carbonate plastic that they use to make the lenses. It's easy to mold it into whatever shape they need, but it's porous and oxidizes easily.
A temporary fix is to buff them with rubbing compound.
here is a secret of the trade DONT TELL EVERYONE :)

I am looking for a clear sealer to wipe over plastic headlights that will protect and dry within 5-10 minutes?

I am sanding and cleaning faded/yellowed headlights and need a clear sealer to protect and provide a finishing touch to headlights to make them shine like new. I would like to know what can be used for this that will withstand heat, last 1-2 years or more and will dry within 5-10 minutes. I would like to know if this could be a laquer clear, boat sealing/clear product-does it need to contain polymers, resins, etc. and what ,if anything would need to be added to get it to dry within 5-10 minutes? Please help-Thanks.I am looking for a clear sealer to wipe over plastic headlights that will protect and dry within 5-10 minutes?
actually a sealer isn't needed. You can start with a semi fine grit sandpaper to get rid of the yellowing and finish with an extremely fine grit sandpaper and they will shine like new.

Works well for scratched cellphone/GPS screens too.I am looking for a clear sealer to wipe over plastic headlights that will protect and dry within 5-10 minutes?

The only reason you would need a sealer is if you used sandpaper or another abrasive cleaner and clouded up your UV layer.

You don't remove yellowed oxidation with sandpaper, you remove it with a deoxidizer.

This was a problem for all late 90's cars, we have them come in all the time to have just the headlights replaced.

So We go to CERTIFIT.com and get them there I would bet for the stratus they will run around.... Oh I have a catalog. Sorry but they are 81.50 a piece, WOW these are the highest I have seen but I bet they are cheaper that the dealer and come with new bulbs. That is your best bet, the treatments and all are just temporary fixes. We have yet to see something that actually clears them up completely.

my wifes van headlights are really discolored and smoked yellow on the inside i alrwady bought one of those worthless lens defoggers it didnt do anything i need to fix them you cant even hardly see the road HELP???????How do you get your headlights to get clear again in a chevy venture?
Its most likely on the outside just really bad. I had a neon that was like that. The headlight kit I bought didn't get rid of the yellowish fading. I had to break out sandpaper. I started at about 220 grit, and worked My way up to 2000 grit, and then wet sanded it, and polished it. Ater that it looked a million times better. Then for the sake of it not yellowing again I sprayed a clear coat over them. Here is how I went.

    1. 220 grit sand all smooth

    2. 400 grit sand away all of the 220 grit scratches

    3. 600 grit sand away all of the 400 grit scratches

    4. 800 grit sand away all of the 600 grit scratches

    5. 1000 grit sand away all of the 800 grit scratches

    6. 1000 grit wet wet sand away the 1000 grit dry scratches

    7. 1500 grit sand away the 1000 grit wet scratches

    8. 1500 grit wet wet sand the 1500 grit scratches away

    9. 2000 grit sand away the 1500 grit wet scratches away

    10. 2000 grit wet wet sand the 2000 grit scratches away

    11. use a poilishing compound and buff it all out a buffer helps alot

So some jerk splashed some white stuff on my headlights while it was parked at school and it couldn't come off. Is it okay to clearcoat the headlights? what kind of clearcoat is okay? can i use the spray paint type?Is it okay to clear coat my car headlights?
Automotive clear is ok in my book to use on your head light, reason being clear coat will be able to withstand hot temps 1 and 2 it shouldn't block all of your lighting while driving , i actually use clear coat auto sprays in pressurized cans on my emergency lighting on my light bar that i use for the fire dept. it actually does work very well to seal and as i have previously stated it will take the heat! Also are you able to get good adequate lighting from the headlights! from the cloudy look?

MarkIs it okay to clear coat my car headlights?
Do not clearcoat your headlights. The plastic may be affected and become weaker- it must be tough and resistant to road dirt, small rocks, bugs and stuff. Clear coat is delicate, and will show wear .

I've polished headlight lenses with Brasso and got them crystal clear. The scratch remover kit will do the job, will cost more and be just as much, if not more work.

The cloudy look may be cute, but don't give the cops anything to hassle you for. Fixit tickets are not free anymore.
have you lost any light from the lenses not being clear? i suppose you could put a clear on them, but adhesion may be an issue. anything sticky will stick, for a while.. i wouldn't mind seeing what youre talking about, but i think i'd polish them out clear again.

Du Pont #7 white rubbing compound can also be used.
    Go to a car store
Most times, this is caused by oxidization. However, most times it can be solved with simple ';turtle wax.'; I know it sounds crazy, but it works.
Try to find a product called Novus II, you apply it like a car wax, but, it is specifically designed for plastics such as that which your headlight capsules are made of. A suggestion for finding this stuff: find a plastics shop or maybe a good internet search will turn up a dealer. Good luck!
Toothpaste! Toothpaste, a little water, and a cloth. That will work as long as the lenses are plastic. If they are glass you can probably take them out, and clean them with soapy water (just the lense)
there are kits at most auto stores. you just have to take the head light apart and wax the insides.
Take some clear coat polishing compound and a buffing pad in something like an orbital sander and you can polish the plastic back to crystal clarity.

the best thing you can do is to ger rubbing compound and either buff them by hand , or if you know how to use a buffer , than do that, but be carfu with the paintm it will not make them look brand new again , buy it will get pretty close, dont use the stuff they sell for that , it doesnt work as good , and after , u r done , put a coat of wax(regular car wax) on it
They make a paste to put on a buffing wheel you can get at your parts store ';mothers'; makes a good one. Or if youre strapped for cash, a white abrasive toothpaste like Crest does a good job too, gels don't work. You can take a rag and a little toothpaste and polish your watch crystal too by the way.
If really rough, use wet sandpaper starting from 400 grit and go up to 1500 grit before the final buff with a very fine rubbing compound for auto paint. If you have the patience finish it with CD scratch remover compound.

Well... If the damage is on the outside, you can buff them with a plastic polish compound. This will clear them right up. Also, if you treat them with wax like the rest of your car, it helps prevent them from degrading again. What can I do to clear up my headlights?
What I did to fix the cloud effect was.. got a sheet of sand paper with a 1000 grit, and sanded them down. I then got some lens polish and attached a buffer wheel to my drill and buffed the crap out of them (bought both from my local auto store). You can still see a small bit of cloud effect (that's UV rad for ya) but they look a lot better.
Is the coudy effect not just due to condensation inside the lense.??

If it is it is common with BMW's and can be removed using compressed air by putting an air-line inside through the opening for the bulb and leave it blowing for 5 minutes..
you can use a plastic polish to remove that. I bought a bottle of carnu-b wax that worked for all of my car. i got it at a swatmeet cheap

What is the best way to clear up my headlights?

I have tried that goo headlight cleaner, but it didn't work. My headlights are not yellow or anything just not too clear..What is the best way to clear up my headlights?
Since the 1980s, most headlights are made of polycarbonate which has a lot of the same properties as plastic but stronger (think bullet-proof glass). When cars leave the factory the headlights are coated with a UV cured hard coat. This coating from the factory wears off and the sun鈥檚 UV rays (and road debris) cause the lens to develop micro-cracks and pitting. This traps the light inside and makes the outside look cloudy. After extended periods of exposure the unprotected lens can become scorched causing it to yellow. 99% of headlight damage is on the outside of the lens.

There are many buffing compounds and polishes on the market that will temporarily restore most of the clarity to you headlights. However almost every product will need to be re-done every 4-6 months when polishing which adds up for total cost.

Your best option for headlight restoration is a UV-cured hard coat - just like from the factory when new. However there aren't many DIY kits available and the process takes some skill to get it correct. And most people are afraid of it as it involves sanding with progressively finer grits of sandpaper before reapplication of the coating. (The purpose of sanding is to remove the old coating, the fine layer of oxidization, and to smooth-out the pits and small imperfections). The best coatings will have a hardener and a high UV protection (much more than a can of clear spray paint will have).

Be wary of anyone selling ';snake oils'; that will clear up the headlights - they are temporary. And any coating that is applied with a sponge/rag will not give you the uniformity that you need for headlights. You need the coating to have the same index of refraction as the polycarbonate that it is protecting which usually involves a ';flow-out'; process. This way the light goes where it is supposed to.

BTW - I've been restoring headlights for years now as a professional and have tried all the products available - I KNOW what works and what doesn't. Unfortunately the product I use isn't available to the general public. I actually restored an 05 Pontiac GXP yesterday and the result was excellent.

Sorry, the plastic in some car head lights just breaks down after awhile. The only real solution is new headlights. There are relatively cheap a/m headlights out there though.

Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish. It works twice as good as the ';Special'; plastic polish that is made for polishing plastic. Rub it onto the plastic housing until it turns a yucky yellowish color, let dry and buff off with a clean cloth. do it 2-3 times and you'll have just like new headlights. How do you make your plastic headlight lenses on your car look clear again and not all foggy looking!!!?
Clean the inside first then ask to a car shop for a chemical that can clean the outside of the lenses dont just use any rubbing compound because it may make it worst.
buffing and those kits are all temp fixes. the yellow always comes back. best thing is to do is go to a local junk yard or buy new aftermarket.
My bet is if you can't scratch it off and the lens feels smooth then is it water vapor build up INSIDE the lens. soo either deal with it or replace the lens.
Rubbing compound, one of the fine grit ones, and elbow grease!! use a silicone lube twice or three times a year to prevent the problem from coming right back
they sell little kits at automotive stores to fix that problem. never used it before so i can't say how good it works.
i agree with jenny, because ive used everything the guyz above is tellin you to use( on my 94 eclipse ) and at the end it always comes back, so save the headache and buy some new ones. ps some of those lens cleaner packs are as high as $15 an up so save the money an the headache.
There is no way to fix this other than replacing them! Don't waste your time with the cleaners they do not work!
I bought some plastic polish at wal mart, it worked perfectly

Can you put clear lacquer on my headlight?

If I went to the store and purchased clear lacquer and put it on my plastic headlights, will it help it? or make it worse?

I am trying to get the haze off the headlights. I don't want to try the sanding kit quite yet, but I also bought some plastic polish too but didn't fully solve the problem. will lacquer work? thanksCan you put clear lacquer on my headlight?
nooooooooo.. it was crack.. get dirty,, fade.. make it worse.. get the sanding/polish kit at any auto store.. it worksCan you put clear lacquer on my headlight?
NO, lacquer will do more damage. Sometimes just car wax will do it. But never any solvents or paint, especially lacquer,on plastics, it will only make the haze worse. Sometimes just cheaper and safer to replace those hazed covers.
Walmart will buff your headlights while you shop.

    DO NOT USE LACQUER!
I wouldn't do the lacquer. I've used Turtle Wax Polishing Compound with great success.
NO!!! DO NOT PUT LACQUER ON THE HEADLIGHTS. try first using a paste polish or WET sand with ';2200'; grit sandpaper.
I have a so called sister that had the same problem with the headlights. What I did was use a buffer and rubbing compound.I put a little on the headlights and buffed them out. After that use a strong detergent to wash them off and then use the clear coat over them.it helps but it still leaves a slight hays on the headlights. The only way to fix them is to find a wrecking yard that may still have some good ones still around. But you would have to buy the whole entire headlamps. The lenses are not replaceable.hgm20002000@yahoo.com

ATF works put some on a cloth and wipe on and let it settle in
My husband says that toothpaste is as good as anything, and if that doesn't work the only solution may be new ones.
I've heard they make a polish that might help !
I used to work in a detail shop and I seen my boss use toothpast e on it. Or you could try a buffing compound . Either should getbthe job done!
Teflon or other coatings merely fill in the scratches that have caused the opaqueness. It would have to be repeated on a regular basis to be even partially effective. The best and cheapest cure for this problem is new lenses. Scratches are caused by dust and road dirts and salts and are a natural road condition.

Last time I was in the auto parts store, they had a product that was indicated just for doing that. I have never tried it, but I can tell you I recognize the need for it.

It was in the section with all of the silicone sealers/glues/etc - I think it was made by Permatex and hanging on a blue card. It was right next to the rear-view mirror adhesive by the same company. It was $4-$7 but can't remember for sure. I just know when I saw it, I wish I'd have had it for my 80's 5.0.

I can't testify as to its effectiveness, but it's certainly worth a try.
you can buy a kit from Eastwood to repair them back to new condition
use the mothers aluminum Polish it will take some elbow but will work great like new and it will last 4 months { don't use sand paper the scratches will never come out .
i have found and tried many times that rubbing compound applied with a damp cloth and rub in circle real well. let it dry to a haze and using a clean dry cotton cloth buff the heck out of it or if you have a buffer, or high speed buffer helps even better. may have to repeat don't know how bad they are. it is alot cheaper than the others they have recommended. and something to have around always anyhow. keep this stored inside so it doesn't dry up also and you can use it on scratches or bring out the shine in your old paint job also. good thing to have around always and it is cheap....just read the directions on the rubbing compound.

have fun and hope your get things cleared up...

Your best bet is go to a salvage yard and try to find some that are in better shape.
O'Reilly Auto Parts carries a product called Plastx...it comes in a white plastic bottle...it works wonders for just what you are describing. I have used it for the same application and it works very well. Follow the directions on the bottle
go to a Harley or any motorcycle shop, they have a system they sell that takes scratch and hazing off helmet face covers, i use this on plastic camera lens for a security system, it just works well on everything plastic, buff it on until it disappears, then use the shine up polish. If the dirt is inside the lens , take the lens out, and soap it up with dawn dish detergent , shake it up and let it sit, put cotton balls inside the lens and shake it up , the longer you work on it the better the results.
yes, they make a cleaning and polishing kit that does a pretty good job. your local auto parts store should carry it. as long as the damage is all external it does a good job. several companies make kits like this. it's chemical cleaning with very little rubbing, the chemical process is followed by a polish/sealer. 3M and RainX both have it.
If the haze is on the outside of the headlight, you can buff it clear again, just don't buff too long or it will melt. If they haze is on the inside, buy a new or used headlight.

if you,ll use a light rubbing compound on them the same kind you use on the painted area,s it will remove the dull look then use a poshing compound on them to bring out the shine and then wax them with car wax, that should last for about 3-4 months before you have to do them over,i do mine about every 3-4 months, its cheaper than buying new ones, and it last and looks good ,good luck, and happy holidays. How do I make my headlights clear again (they're yellow)?

There are products available to recondition your headlights.

DuPont and 3M produce a plastic lens polish. It can be purchased at most any auto supply store.

However, you will need to do a bit of prep work to the lens before polishing.

Wet sand the lenses using 1500 to 2000 wet/dry sandpaper. Get yourself either a water hose with the water slowly running or a bucket of water with a couple of drops of Prell Dish soap added to help keep the sandpaper washed off. Keep the surface of the lens wet with water while sanding the surface until you have covered all the exposed surface.

Now, wipe the lens off with a soft towel.

Your now ready to polish the lens. This can be done by hand, again using a soft towel apply a small amount on the lens and rub out until all the sanding marks are gone--or--You can take a drill motor and attach a polishing bonnet and buff out the lens using the lens polish. This is lots easier on the hand and much faster. Just take your time and keep the bonnet moving until the scratch marks are removed.

This polishing bonnet and adapter can be purchased at your local auto parts dealer for about $10.00 dollars. The plastic polish runs around $8.00 dollars but it will last a very long time. Keep the lens polished about twice a year to prevent future tarnishing.
You can buff it out with compound, but it will probably happen again. I have buffed mine a couple times to clear up the lens, and it fixed it only for a while. Only real good solution is to get new lenses at the junkyard. Almost easier to swap the headlights than buff the things
There is a buffing compound that is made for head lights that most part stores carry. I've had some success with it (about 1 in 3 times it works).

But if the discoloration is from moisture on the INSIDE of the lens, the only thing you can do is replace the lens and housing.
Meguires makes a compound called plastix or something like that. You wet sand the headlights with 1500 grit sandpaper and then buff the lights with the plastix about three or four times and the lights will look much better.

there are some video's on youtube that shows you how to do it.
gritty TOOTH PASTE works just as good as any expensive compound you can buy. it has to be a kind that has some grit to it. the grit basically wet sands the lens. squirt it on and rub it good with a rag, then wash
there is stuff called crystal view headlight restorer it works great u can get it at walmart for sure where i bought it for $20
The car's 10 years old. Even the Air Force replaces cockpit plexiglas and Lucite before that.

    How to get headlights clear?

Hi, i have a Neon too, same problem is starting to occur. I put car polish on the plastic to help a little, but it still deteriorates. There are a few ';headlight restoration kits'; available at the auto parts stores nowadays for about $20. I dont know how well it works.....i work as a detailer for a used car dealer; our trick is to polish the headlights and tailights with mild compound and spray them with clear paint. It might be best if you can order new headlight lenses from the dealer of off the net. Or, add a pair of aftermarket driving lights.....55 watts is standard, 75 watts works best for me, 100 watts is too bright and blinds people....even when lights are pointed low. Good Luck!!!
The headlight restoration kit we use at our dealership

    works great.

the glass/plastic headlight casing on my 99' Ford Contour has gotten real hazy and dull. How do I make it clear again without buying a whole new casing for each side which would run me close to $500?Making my headlight casing clear again?

I used toothpaste on the lenses of an early 90's car in Florida. Cheap and it worked.
this is only a suggestion. if you drill a small hole, as small as possible it will let the moisture dissipate. what you have is a faulty seal in the casing and let moisture in but won't let it escape. a tiny hole will be a short term solution and won't hurt anything but in the long run. you will have to get a new light.
you can try going to a hardware store and get a buffing wheel that goes on a drill. i bought mine from sears and it comes with compound. you can buff it that way. if it is pitted or cracked bad it probably won't make a difference.
Use a product like LensRenew or similar, available at most auto parts stores. It will remove the haze and yellowing.

I use Rain-X on all my cars with plastic headlights. It will take that hazy fog off the lens. Stay away from brake fluid, it will destroy any paint it touches!

If you go to a reputable parts store they will have a kit to fix them up. it involves wet sanding the lens with 3 grades of sandpaper and then applying a wax to fill the finest sand marks. I have called the lenses on many safety checks and the people have brought them back after using the kit, properly, and the headlight covers are clear as new! What he did to repair it was to completely seal it off from any humidity coming by first removing them from car, opening them and using a blow dryer to get the moisture out, then use a thin line of silicon around the seal of the head lights and it kept the moisture out.
At like autozone or advance auto parts they have this thing in the headlights aile that clean away the yellow foggy stuff of the headlamps..
IF it's not condensation on the inside, go to a parts store and there are a few different buffing products that generally work.

If the condensation is on the inside only a replacement lens and housing will cure it.
If its not condensation, then its oxidation. Oxidation is tricky. You could buy the Meguiar's ';Plastic X.'; It washes off with the rain though. The only other thing that I would suggest is just the replace the lenses.
    replace the seal

Is there a home remedy to make my headlights clear?

they have become cloudy. i know that there is a kit for sale for this problem. Is there a home remedy to make my headlights clear?
get the highest number grit wet sandpaper and wet sand the lens that should do itIs there a home remedy to make my headlights clear?
I don't know about home remedies, and really, it should only cost about $3-5 to do yourself. The best I've ever done was with Plastix, by Meguires. It's a white plastic bottle with a black cap that I just got at some random auto parts store in the cleaning section.
Check with your local parts stores for a kit to polish the cloudy headlight lenses. Seems to me someone told me NAPA has a kit.

One time use and kinda pricey, but cheaper than 2 new headlamp assemblies.
    yes....

go to any wal mart or auto parts store

Is it illegal to clear out your headlight? (Take the turn signals from yellow to clear)?

Im doing a little work on my car and I think it looks cleaner for the whole headlight to be clear, instead of the yellow turn signals. Is it illegal to clear out your headlight? (Take the turn signals from yellow to clear)?
Turn signals (front) can be, by federal law, white or amber. However, if all the lights are in the same housing, behind one single lens, the signal bulbs have to be amber because a white signal becomes invisible when it is in the same housing as a white headlamp. That is the exact reason manufacturers make them amber in the first place.

Rear signals can never be white, they can be red or amber.

    Edit and update:

My answer is correct for vehicles up to 1963, when FMVSS108 (US) and CMVSS108 (Canada) dictated, by federal law that front signals emit an amber light, either by coloured lenses or by coloured bulb. Individual states and provinces cannot over-ride the federal standards for these lights.

Presently almost all other countries outside North America require amber lights on all vehicles from the 60s or 70s on as well.

In other words, whether you take my original incomplete answer, or my updated answer, if your car is new than 1963, you MUST have amber front signal lights. Is it illegal to clear out your headlight? (Take the turn signals from yellow to clear)?
    Fred's answer is correct...to a point.

The feds have one set of rules and each state may make further restrictions such as not permitting your change to white.

No state can allow something that the feds prohibit.

Call your DMV to find out what the rules are in your state

you can have clear lenses as long as the bulb is yellow when it blinks it doesnt matter what color the lenses are , just as long as the turn signals are yellow.
yes it can be yellow or white, and in some cases red in the rear of the vehicle. it just depends where you live.
if you want a ticket and some hassel do it...just use amber led bulb and it will look clear untill you use it the turn signal and no tickets
It is against the law. It's yellow for a reason. Take a guess why.
Doing this is illegal in all states.....
It depends on where you live.

  • Clear Headlight Installation?

I have a 2000 F150, I am adding clear headlights. Can anyone tell me how to replace them or a website with instructions??Clear Headlight Installation?
Open the hood. Over the top of each headlamp assembly, there are two black metal tabs with a small hole in the center of them, they are about 6 inches apart. These are the retaining bars. You push these tabs rearward and pull up on them. This will slide the bar up and out. Pull it all the way out and the headlamp assembly is now free to remove. To install, install the headlamp assembly and push in on it while you slide the bar all the way back down where it originally was. That's all there is to it.

1992 plastic headlight covers are not clear anymore?

I have a 92 F150 and the clear plastic covers on the headlights are not clear anymore, and the insides have water built up on parts of them. What can I do to make them look new again? or replace them??1992 plastic headlight covers are not clear anymore?
There is a kit at at parts stores that can restore them, it has sand paper and rubbing compounds that can restore them, the other option is to replace them and they are not cheap1992 plastic headlight covers are not clear anymore?
I've tried on multiple cars various kits to clean them up. None match up to the clarity of new headlights. A company called Certifit supplies aftermarket parts with a decent warranty. I looked at the catalog at my nearby location in NJ and each headlight is $32. I just replaced the lights on my 93 Grand Marquis for $70 each. The difference was night and day. LMC Truck has a set of euro lights that might add some style for $150 for the pair. Either way, I say don't skimp on something as important as headlights. It could mean the difference between seeing something or hitting something.
You can have your headlights cleaned with special chemicals that clear them up pretty good. I had it done at a car wash once, and my mechanic also recommended me to a auto body repair place that also did it. I have one new headlight and one old one because of an accident and I wanted the old one, which was looking cloudy to match up more to the new one.
